No. 1: Angel Locsin

angel locsin

Angel Locsín (born Angélica Locsín Colmenares), is a Filipina television and film actress who was introduced in GMA Network's youth-oriented program, Click. Locsin rose to prominence after being cast as one of the lead stars in the fantasy-themed television series Mulawin in 2004. Soon after, she starred as the superhero Darna in the TV adaptation of the popular Mars Ravelo comics hit. Locsin top-billed in several chartbusting films and is known as the screen love interest of Richard Gutierrez and Dennis Trillo.

Locsín was born on April 21, 1985 in Bulacan province, where she also grew up. She is the second child of three. Her parents separated when she was fourteen and she has since lived with her father.

Locsin's career in show business began after she was discovered by a talent scout while she cut classes with a friend and was shopping at SM City North EDSA in Quezon City.. She auditioned for several commercials and later landed a contract with GMA.

Locsín first appeared in Click, a teen-oriented program on the GMA Network, as the tomboyish Charley (short for Charlotte), where she was first paired with Brian Revilla, then eventually toRailey Valeroso). She became widely known when she first appeared on the cover of FHM (Philippine edition). The same magazine consistently lists her as one of the "100 Sexiest Women in the World", as well as sexiest Filipina, ranking No. 2 behind Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. She has also been known as the current sex symbol of the Philippines.[citation needed]

In 2003, she was devastated when her boyfriend, actor Miko Sotto, fell off the 9th floor of his condominium in December 2003. Afterwards, her boyfriend's mother, movie actress and ABC-5newscaster Ali Sotto, donated his eyes to those in need. Angel eventually portrayed the dramatization of the life of one of these recipients in the TV drama show Magpakailanman

After appearing in Click, Locsin gained further exposure as she was cast in the television shows Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw Pa Rin, All Together Now and Love to Love'.

After her role as the half-human, half-avian Alwina in the 2004 telefantasya Mulawin, where she was paired with Aguiluz (Richard Gutierrez), she auditioned for the title role of the classic Filipina superhero in Darna television series. She won the part handily among numerous actresses who tried out, and was chosen to don the iconic red suit and crest. She also voiced the character of Kyoko Iwase in the Philippine Tagalog version of Initial D aired in Animax.

After Darna, Locsin reunited with former love team Dennis Trillo as they top-billed GMA's fantasy-themed series, Majika.

Angel Locsín also starred in films. Among her big screen credits are Kuya, Mano Po 2, Singles, Sigaw and the 2005 box-office hit Let The Love Begin, where she worked with on-screen partner Richard Gutierrez. Her team-up with Gutierrez is considered by some as one of the best pairings in the country. She also reprised her role as Alwina in the movie adaptation of Mulawin.

Angel as she appears in FHM PhilpiinesLocsin had her fair share of controversy after appearing in a TV ad for Axe (manufactured by Unilever Philippines). Many feminist groups, as well as former Senator Nikki Coseteng, complained about the offensive gestures in the advertisement.[citation needed] In the television commercial, Angel is teasing a man by showing off money and her body but the man approaches Angel and takes only her money. Because of these complaints, Unilever pulled out the commercial.

She also dated Oyo Boy Sotto (born Vittorio Mari Sotto), son of actor Vic Sotto and actress Dina Bonnevie and cousin of her late boyfriend Miko Sotto.

She also admitted on a Filipino TV show "Ali" that she has been an avid fan of WWF/WWE (World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment) eversince she was a kid. Her favourite wrestlers are Triple H and the Filipino-Greek Dave Batista whom she met at the show 'Eat Bulaga' backstage.

Angel and Oyo has just broke up, but they stated that they're still friends.

Angel Locsin is voted no. 1 Most Beautiful Filipina of 2006.

No. 2: Kristine Hermosa

Kristine Hermosa

Kristine Hermosa Orille (born September 9, 1983 in Quezon City, Philippines) is a famous kapamilya actress. Her father is Filipino and her mother is a Spanish mestiza. She has an older sister named Kathleen, who was originally the one who dragged her to auditions in ABS-CBN. However, her sister failed to impress the judges in the first screening and it was reluctant younger sister Kristine who was suggested to audition due to her height and beauty. Thought to be just another pretty-faced teenage actress, Kristine rose to fame in the TV series Pangako Sa 'Yo, which made famous her love team partnership with Jericho Rosales, who later became her real-life boyfriend.

Years before her fame, Kristine started out as Baron Geisler's loveteam partner in Nagbibinata. Later on, she was cast in Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako, a weekly drama series together with Marvin Agustin. She garnered critical acclaim for her performance in this series as she was portraying a role almost more than five years older than her real age.

She was linked to Diether Ocampo until it became a real-life romance on the set of Sana'y Wala ng Wakas. Later, the two got married. Also, their TV series together with her then real-life boyfriend Til Death Do Us Part was a major flop. In 2005, she was given the role of Luisa in the much-loved classic Gulong ng Palad together with new partner TJ Trinidad where she returned to the limelight after taking a break from acting in a TV series.

Hermosa is a member of ABS-CBN's elite circle of homegrown talents properly named Star Magic. She is also voted no. 2 Most Beautiful Filipina of 2006.

sarah geronimo

In addition, Sarah is slated to stage her biggest major solo concert yet "The Other Side" sometime in August, afterwhich she will be filming her launching movie under her management VIVA Entertainment.

sarah geronimo
Sarah is now a mainstay of ASAP '06, a once-a-week, noontime, musical variety show, hosts Little Big Star, a reality star search for kiddie singers, now on its second season and is lead star to ABS-CBN's top primetime soap opera, "Bituing Walang Ningning", a spin-off of the 1985 classic box-office hit movie. She stars as Dorina, the role originally played by Sharon Cuneta in the movie version in 1985.

Sarah Gerónimo, tinseltown's newest Cinderella, grew up in Sta. Cruz, Manila, in a rented house.

To say that Sarah loved to perform is an understatement. She actively participated in school programs and joined many singing contests. At three, she was already in the kiddie show "Pen pen de Sarapen." She was also cast in "For Kids Only" and "Hiraya Manawari". She was part of the first batch of stars in "Ang TV."

But it was Sarah's talent for singing that her father chose to focus on and improve by enrolling at the "Center For Pop Music Philippines" at six years old.

He trained Sarah at home for two hours everyday.

There is always indeed, a bright side for Sarah Gerónimo. No matter the workload, she says she enjoys it so much when kids join her onstage when she performs.

On November 18, 2006, she sang the Philippine National Anthem ("Lupang Hinirang") at the third encounter between super featherweight boxers Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines and Erik "El Terrible" Morales of Mexico at the UNLV Thomas and Mack Center.

Sarah Geronimo is voted no. 3 Most Beautiful Filipina of 2006.

No. 4: KC Concepcion

kc concepcion

There seems no love lost between father (actor Gabby Concepcion, himself a toothpaste endorser before entering show biz) and daughter. After all, she was barely a year old when he left her mom (Megastar Sharon Cuneta, the country's female star product endorser) and her for another woman.

At the recent launch of her very first TV ad, MIRROR Weekly asked her what traits she had inherited from her mom and dad and what lessons in life she had learned from them. KC, whose full name is Maria Kristina Cassandra, was as candid as she could be. After quickly stating that she got her mom's friendliness that makes 'people learn to love her easily,' KC paused for a while before asking back: 'Which dad? You mean my biological father? [Yes, she said.] I don't know him well enough to really say [what I got from him],' she frankly admitted with the usual smile leaving her lovely face.

Conversely, she was quick to display affection for her stepfather Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who came with his parents, wife, daughter Frankie, sister Angeli, and mother-in-law Elaine. She shared: 'I know from my stepdad, I learned patience. He knows how to deal with certain things and I'm learning that.'

Yes, KC is just human. She hurts. She feels. She loves, as she says in her new TV commercial for Human - an alternative label for the young and individualistic. And the mega-daughter is voted No. 4 Most Beautiful Filipina.

No. 5: Anne Curtis

anne curtis

She is best known for her roles as Stephanie Borromeo in Hiram and as Imang/Fatima, the title role in Kampanerang Kuba. Both of these shows aired on the ABS-CBN network in the Philippines. She is currently on the soap opera Maging Sino Ka Man, which also airs on ABS-CBN.

Curtis was born and raised in Australia by a Filipina mother and an Australian father.

She lived in Australia until her lawyer father, James Curtis, moved to the Philippines when she was 12 years old. It is a move that Curtis is thankful for. "I am so happy that I’m here. If I were in Australia I’d have been in a boarding school! My dad was strict when it came to education. He kept on discouraging me when I tried doing commercials, saying that they are just tricking me to get out of school. We lived in the country, so we’d be asleep around 8 or 9 p.m. It was really boring. But here there are so many gimmicks. As of now, being young, I prefer living here (in the Philippines) but maybe when I settle down, I’ll move back to Australia."

anne curtis
Curtis appeared in supporting roles or in ensemble casts during the early part of her career, with most of her early TV shows airing on the GMA-7 Network in the Philippines.

It was the year 2004 when she moved to ABS-CBN where Curtis received her first big break in Philippine primetime TV when she was cast in the role of Stephanie Borromeo in the TV series Hiram as the best friend and romantic rival of Margaret Benipayo, portrayed by Heart Evangelista. The role was a departure from her earlier, typical, teeny-bopper roles, and positioned Curtis for primetime.

In 2005, her successful portrayal in Hiram led to her first title role as Imang/Fatima in the fantasy TV series Kampanerang Kuba.

In 2006, Curtis returned to primetime TV as Celine Magsaysay in Maging Sino Ka Man, this time with new loveteam partner Sam Milby of Pinoy Big Brother fame.

No. 10: Jennylyn Mercado

jennylyn mercado

Jennylyn Mercado (born May 15, 1987) is the ultimate female survivor in GMA 7's first season of Starstruck talent search. Since winning Starstruck, Jennylyn became one of GMA's hottest contract stars.

In the October 14, 2004 episode of TV drama series Magpakailanman of GMA Network, which featured her life story, viewers learned more about Jennylyn's childhood.

In May 4, 1991, when she was nearly four years old, Jennylyn made headlines as a battered child.

Her assailant was her stepfather. He burned Jennylyn's young skin with cigarette butts and whacked her back with a flat iron. Her mother, who was then in Dubai working as a domestic helper, immediately came home. Sadly, though, she came not to take care of her daughter but to bail out her cruel partner, who was in detention.

Her mother migrated to London and had her own family. Because of this, Jennylyn's aunt, Lydia Mercado, legally adopted her.

In June 2004, Jennylyn's biological father, Noli Pineda, now 50 came home for a holiday. His arrival did not go unnoticed by the press. Reports came out saying that he was asking for money from his now self-sufficient daughter. This, Jennylyn strongly denied. What her father wanted, she said, was for Jennylyn to use his surname.

Still, according to Jen, she and her biological father keep in touch, even if they don't get to see each other often, since he's based in Korea.

Because of her experience as an abused child, she is now the Official Spokesperson of the Bata Foundation (Christian Mission Services), a non-government organization that operates with basic funding support from its partner organization Christlicher Missiondienst (CMD) headquartered in Germany, supplementary assistance from two Japanese organizations and a few local groups, with the help of Feed Hungry Inc. and the GMA Artist Center.

School
Before joining showbizness, Jennylyn was a senior student at the Augustinian Abbey in Las Piñas where she actively took part in school programs.

Because of her hectic work schedule after winning Starstruck, she had to take a leave from school. If given the time and opportunity to pursue her studies further, the young actress has answered that she'd like to take up Mass Communications as a major.

Health
On the April 3, 2004 episode of Startalk, a showbiz-oriented show in the Philippines, Jennylyn admitted that she suffers from a heart ailment which prohibits her from becoming too tired, and overly excited and angry.

Debut
A day before her 18th birthday, Jennylyn decided to spend her special day with abused children from the CMSP, distributing gifts and just spending quality time with the children, instead of a grand debutante party.

But the real-life Cinderella cannot escape the life of a princess. MAQ Productions SM Megamall Cinema threw her a belated 18th birthday celebration to coincide with the premiere of her first movie as a leading lady, Say That You Love Me. This was the Philippines' first ever movie premiere with a birthday debut.

The production company went all-out with the celebration. Insiders won't give exact figures, but rumor has it that the price tag is in the seven figure region in Philippine pesos.

Jennylyn wore a beautiful gown created exclusively for her by fashion genius Rajo Laurel. Award-winning production designer Edgar Martin "Egay" Littaua also put his unmistakable stamp on the glittery, flowery affair

Mark Herras, Jennylyn's real-life beau at the time and leading man in Say That You Love Me, escorted his lovely leading lady on her very special evening, together with other young men from Jennylyn's family, Starstruck, GMA Network, and Regal Films.

Her traditional 18 Roses Dance included the following: Vincent Pineda (Jennylyn's father), Rainier Castillo, Jake Cuenca, Tyron Perez, Bearwin Meily, Benj Pacia, Dion Ignacio, Christian Esteban, Anton dela Paz, Alvin Aragon, Kirby de Jesus, Kevin Santos, Ken Punzalan, Jay-R, James Blanco, John Prats, Marco Alcaraz, Dennis Trillo, and Mark Herras.

Well wishers included Say That You Love Me director Mac Alejandre and producer Roselle Monteverde-Teo, manager Becky Aguila, Jennylyn's "Mommy" Lydia Mercado and "Mother" Lily Monteverde. High-ranking executives from GMA Network, including Annette Gozon-Abrogar, Jimmy Duavit, Ida Henares, Marivin Arayata, Lilybeth Rasonable, Reggie Acuña-Magno, Bang Arespacochaga, Darling de Jesus, and Atty. Felix Gozon were also in attendance.

Three hundred guards added even more pomp to the glittery affair, which climaxed with the premiere of the movie in cinemas 3 & 4. Cinema 3 was reserved be for the stars, staff, and special invited guests, while cinema 4 hosted sneak preview ticket-holders. A sumptuous dinner was also prepared for the invited guests.

For those who were not present at the event, the giant plasma screen hanging from the EDSA face of SM Megamall allowed commuters and passersby to see the celebration. There was also a live feed to GMA's top-rating news program, 24 Oras, that allowed TV viewers to witness the revelry from the comforts of their living rooms.

Relationships
She became the girlfriend of co-StarStruck survivor Mark Herras but their relationship has now ended. Although the pair may have declared that they have split up, their on-screen team-up bears no signs of breaking down.

Jennylyn was being wooed by numerous men (like actor Jake Cuenca who gave her a dog - Migs - while working with her in the 9th season of Love to Love entitled Miss Match. But all were just rumors. There were also hints that Jennylyn and Mark got back together again but there had also been rumors that she and her former non-showbiz boyfriend, Jigs Cristobal were back together, too. Jen denied all of these saying she has not got back together with Jigs nor Mark. Some sources also said that she's been courted by Captain Barbell star, Patrick Garcia.

The young singer-actress has stated that none of the rumors are true. She claimed that, at present, she still is entertaining suitors and that her career is her utmost priority.

Now she admitted that she has been going out with award-winning actor, Patrick Garcia. The two had recently been spotted together in one of the country’s finest island, Boracay. Rumor has it that the two is now officially together as confirmed by some of their friends. But the actress-singer neither admit nor deny about the status of their relationship. In one recent interview by Dolly Ann Carvajal of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jennylyn explains, “"I don't deny that Patrick inspires me but that is all for now.”

Jennylyn Mercado is voted no. 10 Most Beautiful Filipina.

While she is popular as a teenage fashion model, Chiu has received harsh criticm as an actress and as an artist. Many express that her cute appeal fails to shield her otherwise poor and wooden acting performance, especially in her debut movie First Day High, a film panned by critics and moviegoers.

In an article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Nestor Torre criticized Chiu's performance in First Day High, saying "She has a hard time enunciating her lines. She’s too raw and untrained a performer to realize that acting is communication, so clarity of diction and utterance is of prime importance. In a number of scenes, we wince as we listen to Kim struggling to make herself understood, and failing much of the time."
